Daily Rant: What time is it?

On 27th of December, an event was held to rock the music scene in Malaysia. An event that was inspired by our own Jason Lo to gather talented rock bands and musicians in one place to perform and show to our fellow Malaysian that the indie/underground scene also has its own place.

Rock The World 9.Yeah that's the name of the event. This year, more than 60 bands were invited to perform on 3 stages at Stadium Bukit Jalil car park. The stages, named as Main Stage, Indie Stage, and Chill Out Stage, all held different kind of musicians, yet still pursue the same ambition, to rock our day. The event started from 12 P.M. till late ( delayed for almost an hour if im not mistaken due to heavy rain).

Okay, enough with the event introduction. I went there with Jeremy, Cheryl, Jeff and John. There was a bump before we entered the place where Cheryl forgot to bring her ticket. Luckily John has some extra cash with him to pay for her ticket. When we went in, I was a bit disappointed seeing how small the crowd is
compared to Rock The World 6. The main campus was starting late so most of the audience hang around at Indie Stage which was hosted by two bad emcees. I should give them some credits for their relentless effort to entertain the crowd even though the most of the crowd were ignoring the emcees.

When the main stage finally started, most of the crowds shifted to the main stage, leaving the other two almost empty. The opening act were by two bands from Hypptunes Band Search Tour winners, Wynken Delirium and Pitbull Inc. respectively. Both gave such a good performance that the crowd was cheering for more. However the band that affect me to write this post is Federated, the third performing band. Even though their lyrics awere funny in some way, but they held some deep meaning. One part of the song is like this:

"Orang Jawa tak makan tempe,
Kalau orang Jawa tak makan tempe,
orang Jawa makan apa?
Sorry lah kawan, I tak makan tempe,
I makan KFC, McDonald..."

For me, that part means, many Malaysians nowadays starting to forget their own roots or cultures and they adopt this mindset where everything from the Western world is cool and ignoring the beauty of their own culture. There is also this song called "Mak, nak ekk ekk(means shit)" and most of us got captivated by this touching song. It is about where we keep asking stuffs from our mom, and our mom will try her best to grant our wish, just because she doesn't want to see her children to suffer. Folk, start saying thanks to your mom from now okay?

Most of the bands that performed on Main Stage gave good performance except for few which i think not entirely their fault. The emcee for main stage is also much better than indie stage, Fadhil (if im not mistaken). He really knows how to control the rowdy crowd and hyped them up. Sadly, the crowd is too rowdy that they ignored the safety of others. I dont mind about them doing some mosh pits but when they started punching and kicking the bystanders, it may caused some fights. I believed that most of the people that ignore the safety of others were mostly teenagers with hot blood that just wanted to get into mosh pit thinking that it is cool to do that..Ergh..By the way, Jeremy got freaked out seeing how people act in mosh pit..haha. Owh i was also amazed seeing how crowd, starting from small changed to huge after 7. I can hardly move around freely by that time.

By the time we got back from RTW, my feet were aching, my legs were covered in mud, and my body was crying for a lie down. Had to turn down John's invitation for dinner. Handphone got problem because of the rain. Regretted for having such a short-duration call. Overall, it was a day filled with good and not-so-good things.

Whatever it is, extracted from Fadhil's favourite question during the event,

"What time is it??!!"

It's time to ROCK THE WORLD!!
